In the framework of the presentation of the Yearbook 2017, prepared by the Research and Statistics Area of the Mintur, Uruguay stood out to 2016 as the year with the greatest arrival of visitors to the country, which included cruisers surpassing the record of 3.2 million in 2011 by 11%.

(71.8%), followed by Brazilians with 472,771 (14.2%) and Europeans with 138,108 (4.1%).

The main destination returned to Montevideo with 28.5%, surpassing the 950,000 visitors, followed by Punta del Este with 20.7% (689,000) and the country's west coast with 14, and expenditure reached $ 1,835 million, which "determined a per capita income of $ 505," according to the document.

In this vein, Uruguay's Tourism Minister Liliam Kechichián, stressed that 2016 was a particularly strong year for incoming tourism and noted that the predominance of tourists from bordering countries is natural.
