Guatemalan authorities raided today the headquarters of the telephone company Tigo, a subsidiary of the English Millicom International Cellular, in search of documentation related to a possible case of corruption.

Guatemala, Nov 23 (EFE) .- The Guatemalan authorities raided the headquarters of the telephone company Tigo, a subsidiary of the English Millicom International Cellular, in search of documentation related to a possible case of corruption.

This operation, jointly led by the Special Prosecutor Against Impunity (FECI) of the Public Ministry (MP), the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) and the National Civil Police (PNC) - constitutes the fifth search in sites related to that company.

In the search of the authorities, the investigations that take place in Plaza Tigo, at kilometer 9.5 of the Carretera a El Salvador; by some local media with the president of the company, Mario López.

The head of the FECI, Juan Francisco Sandoval, confirmed to the press that this day no one would be captured and that the raids would serve to gather information that allows them to investigate, but did not disclose more data because the procedure was in development.

The Attorney General of the MP, Thelma Aldana, mentioned that the raids have to do with the declaration as an effective collaborator of the ex-manager of Telgua-Claro (owned by América Móvil), Julio Porras Zadik, condemned in June for illicit electoral financing to the Patriotic Party in 2011, when the binomial of Otto Pérez Molina and Roxana Baldetti came to power, processed by corruption.

According to Zadik's statement, Claro telephoned the services of the former ambassador of Guatemala in the United States (2013-2015), Julio Ligorría, so that in 2011, in full electoral campaign, mediate the conflict of his company with Tigo, which claimed him 400 million dollars since 1998.

Zadik said that Claro equaled Tigo in his contributions to the Patriota collective campaign with a payment of 15 million quetzales (about 2 million dollars), which supposedly formed part of a "political-commercial" strategy of Claro designed by Ligorría to try to solve the litigation.

Ligorría established the meeting in Mexico between Pérez Molina, Baldetti and the Mexican and fifth richest man in the world, Carlos Slim, owner of America Movil, and made the photos of the same to be divulged by the social networks, which soon caused that Tigo, that saw approach of its rival with the future Guatemalan governors, request a meeting to reach an agreement with Slim's company.

On September 2, 2011, less than a month after the meeting, Telgua and Tigo "signed a contract for transaction and settlement of the litigation for the 400 million dollars "and the problem of Telgua was solved" financing the Patriot Party ", according to the first inquiries.

In addition to this In the case of corruption, the head of the CICIG, the Colombian prosecutor Iván Velásquez, said last July that together with the FECI they would investigate Tigo and the National Unity of Hope, which governed from 2008 to 2012, to see how the Government of Guatemala could favor Lopez's telecommunications company.
