The World Bank calls for an anti-corruption tribunal that encourages investment in Ukraine

The President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, reiterated today to Ukraine the need to create an independent anti-corruption tribunal to encourage economic activity and expressed his will to help the country move forward with the reforms.

Kiev, Nov 14 (EFE) .- The President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, reiterated today to Ukraine the need to create an independent anti-corruption tribunal to encourage economic activity and expressed its willingness to help the country move forward with the reforms.

"The creation of an independent court (anti-corruption) is a fundamental part of the cooperation program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and, from the perspective of investors, is an absolutely critical step "said Jim at a press conference in Kiev.

The head of the WB, after meeting with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Volodymyr Groysman, he referred to the obligations contracted by Ukraine with international lenders and investors.

Jim praised the reforms structural reforms undertaken in recent months by the Ukrainian Government and assured that the World Bank is willing to attract foreign investors to the country as long as a effective system of fight against corruption, which represents an important commercial risk.

"We are pleased to see how the reforms have advanced and we are willing to support them in this process (...) We have made a big bet on Ukraine and we want to ensure its success, "he added.

The financial institution recommended the adoption of an agrarian reform, one of the requirements of the International Monetary Fund in the framework of its cooperation with Ukraine-, which would help not only to encourage investment in land management, but also to growth economic development of the country.

According to the World Bank, this reform would allow the sale of millions of hectares of "very fertile" agricultural land in Ukraine and expand the capacity of annual production of the agricultural sector in about 15,000 million dollars.
