The European Union and the Andean Community inaugurate projects in Peru and Bolivia

The ambassador of the European Union in Peru, Diego Mellado, and the secretary general of the Andean Community, Walker San Miguel, opened today a plant for roasting coffee and another for washing and drying of alpaca fiber in the Border Integration Zone of Peru and Bolivia.

Lima, Nov 9 (EFE) .- The ambassador of the European Union in Peru, Diego Mellado, and the Secretary General of the Andean Community, Walker San Miguel, today inaugurated a plant for coffee roasting. and another for the washing and drying of alpaca fiber in the Border Integration Zone of Peru and Bolivia.

Both plants will benefit 4,800 producers in Peru and Bolivia with a financing of 900,000 euros from the European Union, as part of the Project "Participatory Regional Integration in the Andean Community", launched in 2015.

In the case of raising alpacas, The initiative benefits the inhabitants of the provinces of Huancané in the Puno and Palca regions of the Tacna region of Peru, and the provinces of Franz Tamayo and José Manuel Pando, of the department of La Paz, in Bolivia.

For the production of coffee, the project is aimed at the inhabitants of the Tambopata river basin, in the province of Sandia, in the Peruvian region from Puno; highlighted as one of the most important achievements of the EU to regional integration, because it has promoted the joint work of international cooperation, the authorities of the countries, the local institutions and the population.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Andean Community, Walker San Miguel, said that "with the execution of these projects we erase the borders and we promote integration in our Andean Community, opening more doors to our producers and making intraregional trade grow more and more ".
