Montevideo, Nov 13 (EFE) .- The cruise season in Uruguay is a tool "very important from the promotional point of view", which leaves between 10 and 15 million dollars in the country, Uruguayan Vice Minister of Tourism, Benjamín Liberoff, told Efe today.
The cruise season "places the ports of Uruguay on sale worldwide" and, at the same time, " Verify "that tourists" come first with a cruise "and then stay directly to visit the country, explained Liberoff.
" That is a very important marketing operation for the Uruguay, who know the country and then repeat "the experience, said.
In the morning of today arrived at the Port of Montevideo one of the boats that since last October 20 are arriving in Uruguay as part of the 2017-2018 cruise season.
For the 2017-2018 season, 100 vessels are expected to arrive in Montevideo and another 65 to the coasts of the city of Punta del Este.
Liberoff affirmed that the figures are estimates and that "it may increase the number" of cruise ships that will arrive in the country a little.
In addition, he maintained that there are about 300,000 tourists that are expected to come down from the cruises, including "the crew that goes down on the scales, in the different ports."
The trips, said Liberoff, come mainly from Brazil and Argentina, representing 55% and 60% and "the rest are from the northern hemisphere and other countries of Latin America."
