The Plaza de Cibeles, the Gran Vía, the Puerta de Alcalá, the delicatessens, the bars and the concert halls form a mosaic of different facets of Madrid in an exhibition inaugurated today in Mexico, within the framework of the International Book Fair of Guadalajara (FIL).

Guadalajara (Mexico), Nov 23 (EFE) .- The Plaza de Cibeles, the Gran Vía, the Puerta de Alcalá, the delicatessens, the bars and the concert halls form a mosaic of different facets from Madrid in an exhibition inaugurated today in Mexico, within the framework of the International Book Fair of Guadalajara (FIL).

At the opening ceremony at the Cabañas Institute, the Mayoress of Madrid, the capital of Spain, Manuela Carmena, said that this show has been confirmed as a "great painting" of a city with a "vocation for welcoming" that welcomes all who want get to it.

Carmena added that this exhibition, which is part of the activities that Madrid brings to the Mexican city of Guadalajara as the guest of honor to the 31st edition of the FIL, covers important years of the history of the city that caused "a great artistic outbreak".

"All those times come to coincide at a time when Madrid is identified with herself and creates a painting of her own, and it happens from the moment in which Spain recovers its democracy ", she explained.

About 160 pieces of painting, photography, engraving and comic of the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid are exhibited for the first time in Mexico in the exhibition, which invites the viewer to know a little more closely to this city from different points of view.

The director of the FIL, Marisol Schulz, affirmed that this exhibition will become "an open window to travel to Madrid and get to know the work of its creators and their proposals artistic ".

" Let's say I'm talking about Madrid "takes the title of the famous song by Joaquín Sabina to invite you to enter the streets, the atmospheres, the sounds and the daily life of the Spanish capital in a sample "made as a custom-made suit" of the Cabañas Institute, a building declared World Heritage by Unesco, explained the curator Fernando Castro Flórez.

At the press conference prior to the inauguration, Castro Flórez said that the works recover four decades of contemporary art in Madrid corresponding to the period after "the forty gray years and tremendously dark Franco".

Madrid is colorful, carnivalesque, but also combative and critical from the perspective of artists like Fernando Bellver, Carlos Franco, Chema Cobo, Carlos Alcolea, Luis Gordillo, Javier Utray, Rafael Pérez-Mínguez, Chema Madoz, Ángel Marcos, Vincenzo Castella, Hannah Collins, Roland Fischer, "Christo" and Juan Hidalgo, among others.

Articulated in six thematic axes and seven rooms, the exhibition shows the hyperreality of the city, metropolitan snapshots as everyday as the Carnivals, the Fiestas de San Isidro or the "Veranos de la villa".

It also reveals the intensity of lesser-known cultural groups in Mexico such as "Los Esquizos", a set of artists who worked underground during the Franco regime and who were known during the first years of Spanish democracy under the premise of breaking with the conventions political and artistic imposed by the dictatorship.

"La movida madrileña", the most important countercultural movement of the 1980s in Spain, occupies a place in the exhibition with works by Carlos Sánchez Pérez, Javier de Juan and Pablo Pérez-Mínguez.

It also includes a series of photographs by Miguel Trillo that reflects the groups that acted in the mythical hall Rock-Ola and a poster in which the singer Alaska and Pedro Almodóvar, then part of the duo with Fabio McNamara, promoted a concert in that venue.

The viewer can navigate in this sea of images in a very pop style environment that will give you "an evocative, pleasant, fun experience with an explosion of color and that speaks of times almost frantically optimistic and abnormally jovial "of the city, affirmed Castro Flórez.

" Let's say I'm talking about Madrid "was inaugurated this Thursday at the Cabañas Cultural Institute and will be open to public from November 24 to February 25, 2018.
