La Paz, November 13 (EFE) .- The Government of Evo Morales confirmed today that Switzerland will be formally assigned on December 14 to the bioceanic train project promoted by Bolivia, which will unite the Brazilian port of Santos with the Peruvian port of Ilo, to participate in investment and technical support.

The Bolivian authorities will sign on that date a "memorandum of understanding" with their Swiss partners for the participation of the European country "in the technical field and the intention that Swiss companies can invest in the project," the minister of Public Works of Bolivia, Milton Claros.

The official assured that the project has "particular technical characteristics" that require advice because in its passage through territory Bolivian, must cross the mountain range that separates Peru and Bolivia.

The contribution of Switzerland to the railway project will aim to solve a technical observation to the design with respect to the decrease of 3,700 meters above sea level towards the Peruvian coast.

According to Claros, with the help of Switzerland, the type of resource that will be used to cross the mountains and achieve effective descent to sea level.

Swiss newspaper Sonntags Blick reported on Sunday the visit of President Evo Morales and Minister Claros to Switzerland on the 14th of December to talk about the bioceanic railway and sign a declaration of intentions about the Swiss participation in that project.

Morales and Claros will meet with that objective with the president of turn of the Helvetic Confederation and federal councilor (minister) responsible for the transport portfolio, Doris Leuthard.

The project of the bioceanic train It provides for a route of 3,750 kilometers for the transport of goods and passengers and is scheduled to be completed in 2025, the date of the bicentenary of the independence of Bolivia.

In addition to Bolivia, Brazil and Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina would also benefit by building a railroad line from Bolivian territory to a port area on Paraguayan soil linked to the Paraguay-Paraná waterway.

Contracts will be mainly linked to planning, construction of infrastructure and supply of locomotives and wagons, but also to maintenance, and they rise to between 10,000 and 14,000 million dollars, some tenders in which the Swiss industry expects to participate, according to the Sonntags Blick.

Claros said today that England and Spain have also expressed their intention to join the project, although at the moment the effective step is taking place with Switzerland.
